Once again, REALTORS® will have a chance to network and enjoy a continental breakfast starting at 9:30 a.m. before learning about the key legislative issues in 2017 that will affect the real estate industry and private property. Immigrants’ Impact on Housing Demand and Prices in Some Metropolitan Areas – Alex Nowrasteh, Immigration Policy Analyst, Cato Institute

The United States continues to attract immigrants. By the year 2060, nearly 20 percent of the U.S. population will be foreign-born, a rate even higher than that achieved in the early 1900’s. The role of immigrants and their assimilation into U.S. society continues to be the subject of much study and debate. In this presentation, Mr. Nowrasteh will share his research on the demographics and economic characteristics of the immigrant population, the effect of immigration on housing demand and prices for some metropolitan statistical areas, and their prospects for homeownership.
Mr. Nowrasteh is the immigration policy analyst at the Cato Institute. His academic publications have appeared in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Fletcher Security Review, and Public Choice. He is the coauthor of the booklet Open Immigration: Yea and Nay. His popular publications have appeared in newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the Washington Post, among others. He frequently appears on television and radio stations across the United States, talking about immigration issues and policy.
Mr. Nowrasteh has a BA in economics from George Mason University and a Master of Science in economic history from the London School of Economics. His research can be accessed here.
