TECH HAPPENINGS
— How’s the market?

Agents get that question a lot. At the supermarket, at a cocktail party, at an open house – pretty much everywhere. How they answer it can win – or lose – them business.

1000 Watt Consulting will be Beta-testing an App to answer just that question.

“Street-level real estate knowledge is irreplaceable. No matter how many charts and graphs you can get online, there’s nothing more valuable than a well-informed opinion from a professional with experience in your neighborhood or on your street….”

“In 2006 it was going to be blogging. In 2008 it was social networking. In 2010 it was location-based services. And for some, those things do work. But most remain adrift in a sea of conflicting currents.”

Yet Another Notebook?

Google announced the Chromebook last week. They’re notebook computers (the first two are manufactured by Samsung and Acer) that shed the bulky OS and expensive software suites (read MS Office) in favor of a cloud/web based computing experience. Public and private institutions will be able to rent them for $20 – $28 per month. The jury is still out on this product with much pro and con. So I don’t think I’d be the first in line to sign up. More about Chromebook.

Home Ownership Matters: Background

Recent media reports have questioned whether home ownership is good for America and challenged federal initiatives that favor home ownership—including the mortgage interest deduction. The attacks seek to lay the groundwork for curtailing public policies and to persuade the public that such actions are in their best interest.

Among the articles that launched the recent debate:

06/17/2010 – Rethinking Part of the American Dream, The Wall Street Journal

09/05/2010 – Housing Woes Bring a New Cry: Let the Market Fall, The New York Times

09/11/2010 – The Case Against Home Ownership, Time magazine

NAR recognizes the challenges facing REALTORS® and, this summer, launched the Home Ownership Matters campaign. Through advocacy and outreach to lawmakers, consumers, thought leaders, and the media, NAR is working to preserve this important American institution and provide REALTORS® and state and local associations with valuable information and tools to address concerns from clients and the community.
