The following are scheduled for February 13 at GNAR:



Chapter 93A – Consumer Protection and Business Regulation

This class addresses placing the consumer on a level playing field with the business of real estate, and prioritizing proper disclosure and behavior in the business of real estate” also licensees’ obligations.  Designed for real estate brokers and salespersons and provides a comprehensive overview of the application, procedures and potential liability under the Consumer Protection Statute. While this law has far reaching impact on business activities, this course merely puts focus on those elements relevant to real estate practice. While a thorough knowledge of this important law is critical for licensees, it is not a substitution for legal counsel. The actual law is M.G.L. c. 93A, but it is widely referenced as “93A”.


 Understanding Title/Title Concerns
This class places discussion on what issues we face today on making sure that certain title issues are addressed; third party approval, short sales, liens, escrow, clouds on the title, Homestead concerns and more.

Local Historic District Study Commission

On February 2, the Local Historic Study Commission visited GNAR to discuss the proposed district.  The presentation by Doug Locy was informative and may be viewed on youtube here  Also representing the LHD with Doug, was Sarah White and Doug Bolick.  The recommendations of the LHD have been submitted to the State and when complete, will be put forth to City Council for a vote.

As a follow up to this meeting, GNAR will have the opposing viewpoint, “Say No to LHD”,  address GNAR members on March 8 at 9am.  Representing “Say No to LHD” will be Dick Hordon, Kathy Hordon, Kevin Lanphear, and Lyndi Lanphear.

  1. The meeting with the reps from the LHD was a very informative meeting, it will be interesting to hear the opposition’s viewpoint also…
    Obviously both sides have very valid reasoning as to why or why not the Historic District needs some form of overview for renovations, etc. and I am sure the members on each side of this issue have great intentions and a love for Newburyport’s rich history in architecture as we all do.
    I look forward to the next session on March 8th…
