FROM GNAR PRESIDENT MARION SPARK
Governor Deval Patrick’s 2014 proposed state budget is seeking to raise an additional $1.9 billion dollars annually in order to pay for transportation, infrastructure improvements and improvements to public education in the Commonwealth. To accomplish this, the Governor has proposed a series of changes to a variety of tax provisions in Massachusetts, including changes to the income tax, sales tax, cigarette tax and many others. The Governor proposes to eliminate:
- The capital gains exclusion on home sales (The current Mass. law mirrors Federal law). NAR is also working to protect the capital gains exclusion on the Federal level.
- The lead paint tax credit
- The Title V tax credit
MAR opposes these proposals and will be actively working on the issues over the next several months as the budget is debated in the legislature. At this point, MAR has made our concerns known to the appropriate legislators in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. MAR CEO, Rob Authier, and Kimberly Allard-Moccia, MAR President, were interviewed about the capital gains exclusion by radio station WBUR (90.9FM).
If we do reach a point where broader membership support is needed, we will let you know about the next steps if needed (eg. Call for Action, Letters to the Editor, rally at Day on Hill, etc.).
