FHA Allows More Electronic Signatures
On January 30, 2014, HUD announced that it will now accept electronic signatures on most documents involved in FHA mortgage insurance, mortgage servicing, loss mitigation and FHA insurance claims. The HUD Announcement came two days after NAR convened a second Electronic Signatures Summit meeting, bringing together three dozen representatives of government, lenders, real estate and related industries and electronic signature vendors to discuss ways to foster greater acceptance and usage of electronic signatures, which were first authorized by federal law in 2000. The FHA announcement gives a major boost to that ongoing effort and will serve as a model for other actors in the mortgage arena.
Videos Look at Changes for 2013 Tax Filings
Your members can learn about the new home office safe harbor and a higher per-mileage deduction that can help them lower their 2013 tax bill in two videos released this week. Also, they can learn about changes that impact higher-income households, including the new 39.6 percent tax bracket, higher long-term capital gains and dividend taxes, and the 3.8 percent net investment income tax that goes into effect. The videos feature NAR’s tax analyst Evan Liddiard, who sits down with tax advisor Peter Baker to talk about these and other tax changes important to real estate practitioners.

|REALTOR confidence in the January market generally positive, but still a little mixedPosted: 19 Feb 2014 09:07 AM PST
With low inventory and prices continuing to go up, REALTORS® feel confident about prices according to the results of the January 2014 REALTOR® Price Confidence Index. However, a lack of inventory is also pushing REALTOR® confidence in the market down according to the January REALTORS® Marketing Confidence Index. With interest rates ticking down, and home equity returning a little bit each day, everyone is looking at homeowners to make the decision to get into the market.
Here are the January 2014 Highlights:
The January Hot Topic question asked REALTORS® if they (or anyone in their office) has been involved in a home sale transaction in which metals (e.g. copper pipe, wiring, cast iron, siding, etc.) had been stolen from the home.
