Happy Yankee Homecoming Week
GNAR Government Affairs chairperson, Mary Holmes, has been a member of Flotilla 38 in Newburyport for 20+ years, and this week Mary personally invites you to visit the Coast Guard open house tomorrow (Thursday) as a special event of Yankee Homecoming.
Mary is a National Staff member-Branch Chief Family Programs (2009-2013), she is also the chair of GNAR’s Government Affairs committee and is always seeking volunteers to assist her on the committee. As past-president of GNAR, Mary has been an advocate of RPAC as demonstrated this commitment with her highly successful annual mini-golf tournament each June. Through Mary’s efforts, and our engaged members, GNAR continues to meet participation and financial goals set forth by NAR and MAR.
Coast Guard Station Tours –
July 30 from 10 to 3pm
The Coast Guard Station in Newburyport stands as a testament to over 100 years of service to the opening of the Merrimack River and the coastal regions from the North Shore to Portsmouth, NH. All are invited for a special tour of the facility and get a close-up look at the inner workings of this very busy station.
Located on Water Street in Newburyport, the station is a base of operations for search and rescue of boats and yachts in trouble in a notoriously dangerous river mouth and surrounding coast. Considered home to the first Coast Guard station in the United States.
The Maritime Museum invites you to explore and discover through artistic depiction the many and evolving roles fulfilled by the United States Coast Guard over two and a quarter centuries of service to the nation. Semper Paratus — always prepared.
No cost to you!
