Congratulations to Sandy Berkenbush!
Recipient of the 2015 MAR Good Neighbor Award
The Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) announced this past Sunday, that Sandra Berkenbush of Stone Ridge Properties in Newburyport was named MAR’s 2015 Good Neighbor Award winner for her work on behalf of Cruise for a Cure, an annual dinner cruise on the Merrimack River that raises money for cancer research. The Good Neighbor Award recognizes REALTORS® for their community activism. The award was presented at MAR’s Professional Awards Reception, which was held in conjunction with the Association’s 2015 Conference and Tradeshow at the Hilton DoubleTree in Danvers.
In 1991, Berkenbush’s 11-year-old daughter was being treated for osteosarcoma at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) at Children’s Hospital. She was so thankful for her daughter’s recovery that in 1994 she launched Cruise for a Cure to raise money for the Claudia Adams Barr program, supporting scientists at the DFCI who are conducting basic cancer research. This past spring, DCFI awarded Berkenbush with a Lifetime Achievement award for donating $250,000 through her work with Cruise for a Cure.
Cruise for a Cure has grown since its inception, from raising $4,000 annually to an average of $15,000 today. In addition to creating the event, Berkenbush is responsible for coordinating donors and sponsorships, organizing lead-up events and completing all the paperwork and banking. Each year, Berkenbush makes sure to handwrite thank-you notes to everyone who participated in the Cruise.
In addition to Berkenbush, Susan Callahan of Century 21 Commonwealth, Billerica, Mark Harris of Signature Associates Inc. Real Estate, Pittsfield and Leonette Strout of Keller Williams Realty, Beverly were awarded 2015 Good Neighbor Award Honorable Mentions.

PAN MASS Challenge-Still Time to Donate!
Please help us reach our $45 Million Goal!
In August, I pedaled with 6,000 other riders to raise $45 million for the life-saving mission at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We have just passed $39 million and are $6 million away from our ambitious $45 million goal. I need your support to help achieve our $45 million goal.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) combines exceptionally strong commitment to cutting edge research with an equally strong commitment to the best, safest and most expert clinical care and a relentless focus on providing the best patient care experience throughout their care. No other cancer center combines all of these as well as DFCI. DFCI is the only cancer center in the world with a top 5 ranking in both pediatric and adult cancer (no. 1 in pediatric). Also, a recent international survey ranked DFCI #1 in Research Impact.
The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, $455 million since 1980 and $41 million last year alone! Achieving this year’s historic goal will bring the PMC’s all-time giving to DFCI to an amazing $1/2 Billion! This success is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure. It is important that you know 100% of your donation goes to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
