Where:         Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb Street
Presenter:   Anne Seligsohn, The Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston

Last fall, the YWCA hosted

an event on how to develop a welcoming community for people of color.  Barry Bluestone from the DukakisCenterpresented demographic data that dispelled many myths and misconceptions regarding the impact of increased minority population.  Michelle

Waters-Ekanem, Director of Diversity for the Department of Environmental Protection [MassDEP] in Bostoninvited attendees to comment and respond to the presentation.  One of the outcomes from this discussion was the desire to hold a luncheon for REALTORS focusing on fair housing law.

On April 25th, Ann Seligsohn from the Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston will be conducting the training regarding fair housing law.  The first portion of the training will review protected classes, types of discriminatory actions, exemptions, Massachusetts Lead Law, Section 8 housing vouchers and Fair Housing as it relates to disabilities.

The second portion of the training will be a more practical approach to the law in which advice is given on how to balance the desires of landlords and owners with the law.  A series of best practices will be presented to guide the work of REALTORS.  Consequences of housing discrimination will also be presented.  The training will end with a question and answer session.
